White House Communications Director Hope Hicks to Resign
Less than 24 hours after testifying before Congress for a grueling nine hours, White House Communications Director Hope Hicks told President Trump she was resigning from her post. According to those familiar with the situation, the 29-year-old Trump aide was not leaving the White House because of recent news reports. These reports, of course, entail her telling Congress about the "white lies" she's told for the president and refusing to answer many questions.
But it's likely her relationship with Rob Porter that struck a cord with Americans. Porter himself recently resigned from his position as a senior official at the White House after reports of physical abuse by two of his ex-wives. Hicks had been dating Porter when the news broke, and crafted the White House response to the allegations that they knew about the reports of abuse well in advance and did nothing about it. Instead, this official states, there was really no good time for her to leave and she had been planning to do so after working for the president for three years.
Three years seems like an odd amount of time (no pun intended) when a president's term is four years—but us Millennials have an entirely different concept of time. (Are we killing time, too?) It's pretty clear no one wants to be the communications director under this administration. Hicks is the fourth person (first woman) to hold the position since Trump's inauguration. And no one can ever forget her predecessor, Anthony "The Mooch" Scaramucci, whose infamous on-the-record tirade to a journalist was the beginning of the end for him. He lasted 10 days, so at least she's got that going for her.
When will Sarah Huckabee Sanders learn to follow suit?
